What will happen in 2035?

In the UK, a ban on the sale of new cars powered solely by petrol or diesel is set for 2030. However, the government has said hybrid cars can continue to be sold after this date. 

After 2035, all new models sold must be zero-emission. 

As a result, car manufacturers all over the world are developing greener options.

Tesla

Established in California in 2003, Tesla has established itself as a car brand committed to making the production of electric vehicles as efficient and sustainable as possible.

BMW

Founded in Munich, Germany, in 1916, BMW has evolved into one of the greenest car manufacturers. 

Since 2006, BMW has cut emissions per vehicle by more than 70%. It aims to reduce emissions by 40% by 2030 and to be climate-neutral by 2050. 

BMW uses FSC-certified wood, green electricity, and renewable raw materials in its vehicles. It has programmes in place to recycle and reuse materials and encourages BMW owners to recycle their end-of-life vehicles. 

BMW also uses green electricity in its plants and has agreements with suppliers to use green energy for battery cell production.

Toyota

Established in Japan in 1937, Toyota has long held a reputation for being innovative and environmentally conscious. And its car lineup has set the standard for the global car market. 

In light of its continuing efforts to further the global impact of green cars, Toyota is a pioneer in hydrogen fuel cell production. Cars with hydrogen fuel cells are powered by a series of chemical reactions which occur inside a cell. These cars are highly sustainable and environmentally friendly.

Established in Japan in the early 1910s, Nissan is known for its progressive and innovative car designs. 

With efficient models like the Leaf and Ariya, Nissan is no longer investing in new internal combustion engine designs, including petrol vehicles. 
Nissan’s Green Program 2030 outlines its commitment to realising carbon neutrality by 2050, as well as it’s long term vision of zero risk and zero impact for air quality and water.

Founded in Detroit, USA, in 1903, Ford boasts a sustainable approach to designing and manufacturing vehicles. 

Ford has also introduced EcoBoost engines in its Fiesta, FocusTourneo Connect, and Transit Courie petrol and diesel models. EcoBoost engine technology reduces fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
