Hydrogen Power

The Toyota Mirai, meaning ‘future’ in Japanese, is a mid-size hydrogen fuel cell vehicle (FCV) that represents Toyota’s commitment to sustainable transport. It’s the first FCV to be mass-produced and sold commercially. The Mirai’s sleek design and plush interior rival luxury brands. The big touchscreen operates by touch, and phone mirroring and a head-up display enhance connectivity. While the cabin isn’t as spacious as a battery EV, the Mirai offers air purification and a unique H20 button to release pure water from its powertrain.

Lexus-like Luxury

Inside the Mirai, swish materials and plush furniture create a sense of luxury. The 12.3-inch Toyota Multi Operation Touch (TMOT) screen controls features like the premium JBL audio system, DAB+ radio, satellite navigation, and air conditioning. Actual switches reduce menu diving, although some are tucked away. The legroom is decent, but the rear headroom can be tight, especially with the panoramic sunroof. The Mirai’s air purification system removes NOX, and the H20 button releases clean water at an opportune moment.

Single Powertrain Choice

The Mirai offers one powertrain choice, but Toyota packages it in three trim levels: Design, Design Plus, and Design Premium. The entry-level Design includes 19-inch alloys and cloth seats, while Design Plus adds synthetic leather and extra safety features. The Mirai’s fuel cell stack has been repositioned for a more spacious, five-seat interior. The legroom is adequate, and the rear bench accommodates three passengers.
